Who we are
ChipBits is run by MKES Ltd, which is the controller of the personal data described here. For anything to do with your data, email support@chip-bits.com.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, your password (stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider), your role and the organization you belong to.
- Invitations: the email address of anyone an administrator invites to join their organization.
- Activity: an audit trail of changes made in ChipBits, recording which user made each change and when.
- Billing: if your organization subscribes, payments are handled by Stripe. We keep a Stripe customer reference; card details never reach ChipBits.
- Technical data: our hosting and database providers keep server logs, which can include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
The parts, BOMs, stock, orders and supplier details your organization enters belong to your organization. We hold them only to provide the service to you. Supplier API keys are stored encrypted and used only on our servers.
Why we use it
- To provide ChipBits to you and your organization (performing our contract).
- To keep the service secure and working, and to keep an audit trail your organization can rely on (our legitimate interests).
- To keep billing records we are required to keep by law.
We don't sell personal data, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only the providers we need to run ChipBits:
- Supabase — database and sign-in. Your data is stored in the EU (Stockholm, Sweden).
- Hostinger — web hosting.
- Stripe — subscription payments.
- Mouser and DigiKey — when your organization asks for quotes, part numbers and quantities are sent to them using your organization's own API keys. No personal data is included.
Where a provider processes data outside the UK, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.
Cookies and browser storage
ChipBits uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. Your browser also stores a few display preferences, such as light or dark mode and inventory column layout. We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. When an account or organization is closed, we delete its data, except records we must keep by law, such as billing records.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive a copy of it. Email support@chip-bits.com. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change this statement, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
